5 Things to look for when choosing a wedding photographer

Are you in need of a wedding photographer? Who will be your wedding photographer?

Here is a list of some of the things you should consider when looking for a photographer.

//1 Personality

When selecting a wedding photographer you are selecting more than just a photographer. You are hiring a wedding photographer that will be with you through your special day. Personality is a huge part of the selection process and should not be overlooked or discounted in any way. If you don’t jive with your wedding photographer you will not be comfortable. When you are not comfortable it will reflect in your wedding images. Is your photographer willing to step up and take command when it is needed. There is always a time in a wedding where a photographer will need to get attention of a crowd. These times can come especially when trying to do family portraits and gathering everyone for these portraits.

Your photographer’s personality can set the tone for your entire day. It can ultimately impact your wedding altogether.

If you want to make sure your photographer will be a great fit for your wedding feel free to contact them and see if they can meet up with you to speak about your wedding. Some photographers might give a test shoot for you.

//2 Price

While price is always a factor when selecting your wedding photographer, it should not be the only thing that matters. All too often you hear horror stories from customers who made a decision for their wedding photography based purely on price. It turns out to be foolish in the end. When its all said and done, your wedding photographer will make or break your photos. Some photographers offer payment plans and or will work with you on paying off your wedding. You can almost always expect a deposit of some sort to hold and lock your wedding day. You have heard the saying you get what you pay for. It can play a factor into your wedding photography as well. We highly recommend speaking to a photographer you are interested in and making sure everything lines out the way you would like.

//3 Product

You want to make sure your wedding photographer is giving you more then just digital images from your wedding. Take a look and speak with each photographer through and around your city and make sure your receiving a tangible product from your wedding day. We believe that a photographer should give you digital images from your wedding day along with other options. Look for options such as a wedding album. Wedding albums can come in a variant of sizes from about 8×8 on up. Look at your photographers albums and make sure its of quality and will stand the test of time. You will see albums with thin pages up to thick heavy stock pages. Some albums the pages will lay flat and others will not. The covers can be made with paperback covers and even hard back albums with metal, leather, etc. Whatever you choose a wedding album will be your first family heirloom that your children’s children will be looking at or wanting to look at.

As well some photographers will offer prints from wallet size images all the way to 30×40 canvas prints and they even print on metal. We believe in getting the images printed and that your photographer should be willing to help you choose whats right for you. When having your image printed it can hold a closer place to your heart. Your images should be printed on high quality paper to last for many years to come.

//4 Meaning

When it comes to your photographer you want to make sure they care about you and your day. They should understand that your wedding day will be one of the most important days in your life. This day will be with your forever and you want to make sure they are ones you will not regret because of a wrong decision on a wedding photographer. Do the research and be confident in your photographer that they will take your special day seriously.

//5 Travel

Some photographers will travel at no extra cost and some will charge a fee past a certain amount of miles. They might charge a flat rate or they might charge per mileage. Check to see if you photographer has done any traveling for weddings. When choosing a photographer for a destination wedding make sure you find someone who has traveled before. They should be arriving to your destination with a day or two to spare. Traveling far distances one can experience sudden lay overs that could make them late to your destination. As well, equipment can get damaged or lost on the way. Remember when choosing a photographer for your destination wedding to find one who has experience traveling.
